Anti-Burns Night
The Ferrette Morris Umpteenth Traditional Anti-Burns Night will take place at the Braustube Lällekönig (Haus zur Basler Bierkultur) Schifflände 1 4051 Basel, from 8pm on Friday 26th February.
About us
The village of Ferrette is in the Sundgau (southern part of the Alsace, France) about 24km south-west of Basel, Switzerland.
We are an English Morris side performing dances from the Cotswold traditions of the morris.
If you would like to find out more you can contact Peter, our squire, by telephone: +33 389 40 36 01 or by mail: peter·dot·sandbach·at·roche·dot·com.
As well as new dancers we would welcome additional musicians!
History
Ferrette Morris was established in September 2003 to perform dances in the Cotswold tradition, initially with the intention of dancing at the Fête de la musique, which always takes place in Ferrette on the longest day of the year.
Every two years we host a visiting side for our Three Countries Tour. Kennet Morris Men joined us in 2004, Windsor Morris in 2006 and Owlswick in 2008.
We have also danced in England on several occasions, once at the Sidmouth Folk Week (2005), twice in Woodbridge, Suffolk (2007 and 2008) and with Owlswick on a tour of the Cotswold villages in 2009.
Kit
We wear long-sleeved white shirts with a red neckerchief and black waistcoats with the Ferrette coat of arms on the back.
We have black hats, decorated with red and yellow ribbons, flowers, birds and animals. Our trousers are white and we wear black shoes. Our bellpads have red and yellow ribbons, too.
Practice Sessions
We practise on Wednesday evenings from 8:30pm in the Halle au Blé, Ferrette.
If you would like to come along we would be very pleased to see you. Several of us travel from Basel or Allschwil so we can arrange a lift if you need one.
It is best to contact us in advance to make sure we are practising on a particular day.
